How do I initialize tracking for a shipment?  

Use the PUT: Describe shipment route to project44 to begin or update tracking endpoint. You will need the Master Air Waybill number to successfully start tracking.  

Will project44 track my air shipment from origin to destination?

What does the “DELIVERED” status mean for an air shipment?  

This means the shipment was delivered to the airport and will be delivered to the final move for the full shipment lifecycle.  

What does an “UNKNOWN” status mean for an air shipment? 

This status is used to designate an event from the data provider that we do not have “mapped.” We will include text from the airline carrier in the description of the returned response.  

Can I get shipment status updates sent to me via email or text message?  

Yes, project44 supports event-based notification through email and SMS.  

How do I create notifications for air shipments?  

You can create notifications about specific events relating to your air shipment or shipments. In the VOC, navigate to the menu in the top right corner and selection NOTIFICATIONS. In the notifications set-up window, select:  

• Mode: “Air”  
• Event: select any event you would like to receive notifications for  
• Enter the email or SMS info that you would like the notifications sent to

Why am I not seeing pings between locations in the VOC? Why am I not seeing position updates for a flight?  

Air shipment routes are determined by the airline carrier. If a shipment is traveling across land at some point (e.g. to get from a warehouse to the airport), it will be transported by a truck. Sometimes the airlines book a truck to transport the shipment to an airport and assigns the truck transportation leg a flight number. Therefore, we are not getting location pings for the truck along its route to the airport.  

Why are the multiple points of “start tracking” for a single air shipment in the VOC? Why are there multiple booking events from the same airport?  

The freight forwarder booked multiple flights, not knowing what flight the shipment would be on/was unsure of when the shipment will get to the airport so multiple flights were booked. The manifest that comes through will indicate the actual flight the shipment is on.  

How often does project44 ping the data provider for shipment updates?  

project44 will start pinging the provider for tracking data 60 minutes before the flight and will continue to ping the provider every 60 minutes for updates throughout the flight.  

How do I add attributes to an air shipment?  

Unlike other modes that utilize project44’s Unified API, adding attributes to an air shipment does not occur when the air shipment is initialized. Instead, there is a separate To add attributes to an air shipment, use the PUT: Update the tenant shipment attributes for a shipment endpoint. You will need the shipment ID and the attribute names and values to complete the request.  

How do I get update on my air shipment?  

You can PULL the updates with:  

• the GET: Fetch the event history for a shipment to retrieve the shipment’s stop and event history.  
• the GET: Fetch the position history for a shipment to retrieve the shipment’s stop and position history.  
• the GET: Get full tracking history for a shipment to retrieve the shipment’s entire history.  

You can also have updated PUSHed to you through a webhook. Register your webhook and then work with the project44 Implementation Team to add the webhook configuration name to your tenant settings. Currently, only the events, stops, ETAs, current position, and attributes can be PUSHed. The entire shipment history cannot be PUSHed at this time.  

Can I delete an air shipment?  

No, air shipments cannot be deleted.   

How do I manage split shipments?  

Split shipments should be managed as separate shipments.
