Automatic Asset Tracking
Automatically track dedicated and non-dedicated assets within a site using IoT devices, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices.
How automatic asset tracking works for dedicated assets:
-
An RFID is persistently attached to the facility-owned assets and the RFID tag ID is recorded in the asset details in the Trailer Listing page.
-
Assets are automatically tracked once they have arrived at a facility.
Dedicated assets with persistently attached RFID tags can automatically check in and check out at yard gates.
How automatic asset tracking works for non-dedicated assets:
-
Gate personnel attaches a reusable RFID tag to a non-dedicated asset when it arrives at a site and records the RFID tag ID in the gate arrival form. This associates the arrived asset with the RFID tag so it can be tracked within the site.
-
The asset's location is manually updated as it is moved around the site through assigned tasks.
-
Spotter trucks are fitted with RFID readers. As the spotter moves around the yard, the RFID reader detects tagged assets and collects details on asset positions as it drives by parked assets and spots trailers (moves trailers to assigned dock doors).
-
The location information collected by the RFID readers on the spotter trucks is compared to the asset location information stored in the YMS system. When the location detected by the RFID reader does not match the location recorded in the YMS, the system will correct the asset location to the RFID-detected location. This information is found in the Drive by Inventory Listing.
-
Gate personnel detach the reusable RFID tag from the non-dedicated asset when it departs from the site.
Register RFID reader and tag information in your YMS system to before attaching RFID devices to equipment.
RFID readers are the devices that detect RFID tags attached to assets. RFID readers can be attached to site locations, like gates and parking zones, or spotter trucks.
To add RFID reader information,
-
Open IoT > RFID Reader. This opens the RFID Reader Listing page.
-
Click Create Entry.
-
Enter RFID reader information.
-
Click SAVE. The RFID reader can now be added to the Passive RFID Portal.
The Passive RFID Portal is where RFID readers are assigned to specific locations within the site. RFID readers can only be assigned to one location.
To assign an RFID reader to a site,
-
Open IoT > Configuration > Passive RFID Portal.
-
Select the site you want to assign RFID devices information to.
-
Click Add Configuration.
-
Enter RFID reader information
-
Location Type is the location the RFID readers will be attached to (for example, a gate). OUTDOOR LOCATION refers to other locations where the RFID reader can be placed within the site (for example, a parking zone).
-
Location is the specific gate or parking zone where the RFID reader will be located.
-
-
Click SAVE.
-
The RFID reader is now visible in the Passive RFID Portal. This is where the RFID reader's location information can be edited.
RFID tags are the devices attached to assets as they arrive at a site (non-dedicated assets) or persistently attached to dedicated assets. Before an RFID tag can be attached to an asset and the association recorded in the asset's details, RFID tag information must be configured in the YMS.
To configure RFID tags,
Yard locations must be accurately geofenced for automated asset tracking to function correctly. Confirm the virtual boundaries created for site locations (site, buildings, gates, parking zones, dock zones, and/or shunts) are accurate.
Once the RFID readers and RFID tags are configured, RFID tags can be associated with assets.
-
Gate Console: Record the Passive RFID tag ID when arriving and departing a trailer in the Gate Console.
-
Asset Listing: Record the RFID tag associated with a specific asset.
-
Vehicle Listing: Record the RFID tag associated with a specific non-spotter vehicle.
Toggle on RFID Reader and record the information (name and antenna numbers) for the RFID reader attached to a spotter vehicle.
-
Trailer Listing: Record the RFID tag associated with a specific trailer.
